Olestra Follow-up

Since our last issue, Frito-Lay has begun distribution of their Max line of chips in three cities (Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and Grand Junction, Colorado.) The Max chips are fat-free chips made with Olean, the commercial name for Olestra.

So far the company says they are pleased with the response. They were expecting one report of digestive upset for every 500 bags of product sold and they're "only" had one per 3000 bags sold. This amounts to seven reports so far, by their count. Other sources say the problems are more numerous.

You can make your voice heard. Let Frito-Lay know that you don't want Olestra on the shelves in San Diego, regardless of the results of the current test marketing.

Call the Frito-Lay toll-free customer service number: 1-800-483-7486 and politely tell them that fake fat is bad business.
